The 2.5D Game Returns
As I usually do while sitting on the toilet I was catching up on tech articles and such when I came across an unexpected nugget of gaming news; the maker of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night fame, Koji Igarashi, is making a new game, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Based on Igarashi’s Kickstarter page he already had most of the funding he needed for the game but his backers wanted him to prove that there was enough public interest for a 2.5D side scrolling gothic adventure game. At this point the answer is a resounding yes. The Kicstater goal was only 500,000 and double that amount has already been raised.
Based on the little bit of information listed on the kickstarter page I have to say I’m very excited. Symphony of the Night was by far my favorite game on the Playstation and easily on the list of my top ten games of all time. Symphony of the Night proved that you can have an amazing adventure game without having to jump into a full 3D world. I have high hopes that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be just as amazing a game even if it won’t be as iconic.
I can easily forgive Igarashi for the cheesy way he’s chosen to capitalize on his past success by naming the game something so close to Symphony of the Night. This time around he is banking on his name and fame to get his game made. I hope he can live up to the expectations of his fans and bring new life into the 2.5D genre.
A Website Update Side Note
With this being my second article that has talked about a game that’s used Kickstater I thought it would be a nice idea to keep a running list of interesting projects. With that in mind I have created a new page. When I see an interesting project I’ll add it to the list and you’ll be able to check back and see at a glance which projects have been funded and which projects have not. Not a revolutionary feature, I know, but I hope you’ll find it useful. You can find the page listed under Resources or you can go directly to it now by clicking here.
